Cloth Checklist
|
Not sure what you need to get started? Wondering what system will be best for you and your baby, and your budget? Here are a few suggestions for getting off to a good start.
Remember, you don't have to know everything there is to know about cloth to get started! It is easy to feel overwhelmed by all of the different options when first looking into cloth diapering- but let us assure you, cloth diapering isn't hard! We are here to help, and have put together a few suggestions based on what has worked for us with our kids, as well as what has been a good start for our other cloth diapering friends.
When considering how many to buy, take into account the age of your baby. Newborns and infants will need 10-12 changes per day. Toddlers will need 8-10. Most parents wash diapers every 2-3 Days.
Your cloth diaper system can be all of one type, or any combination of prefolds, fitteds, pockets and all-in-ones. If you aren't sure what system if best for you, or you are looking to try a new diaper, we recommend starting with a small sampling first, as babies come in different shapes and sizes. Our Cloth Diaper Sampler Kit provides you with a little bit of everything, so you can test out the different kinds of diapers.
If you you are looking to take out the guesswork, and just get started with cloth diapering, than one of our Ultimate Starter Kits would be the answer for you! This will provide you with a convenient One Size system, and all of the accessories you need to cloth diaper full time.

Prefolds (require a cover)
|
Children in prefolds will most likely need to be changed more often than with other diapering systems. Remember that infant prefolds are smaller than baby size. We recommend purchasing an extra waterproof bag for storing the dirties on wash day, which is also great for when you are out and about. Many parents prefer to use bio-liners for the messy poops, which make cleanups a breeze. While some have great success with using prefolds for over night, many parents will purchase 2-3 pocket diapers or several super abosrbent fitted diapers, which can work well for heavy wetters, and are also a little more caregiver or daytrip friendly.

One Size Pocket Diapers (no cover required)
|
One Size Diapers grow with your baby, so there is no need to purchase different sizes. This is a very cost effective and convenient option for parents, and our most popular purchase amongst Nature Bums customers. We also reccomend bio-liners and an extra wet bag for use when out, or on wash day.
Remember that this is simply a reccomendation- and many parents find a customized system that suits their baby's needs. Don't get discouraged when starting out, the hardest part adout CDing is choosing which diapers to buy- the rest is a breeze!
